Student Welfare
We take the welfare of students attending Harrow School Short Courses very seriously. All our students are aged between 9 and 17 years and we have a duty of care.
House Parents and Activity Leaders are there to make students feel comfortable and happy at Harrow School. We also have an experienced and dedicated Pastoral Manager so if students are feeling upset or would like some extra help or guidance they are invited to come and talk to him. In 2024 our Pastoral Manager is Sam Howard, he is pictured here giving a briefing to students in Harrow School’s Speech Room and is available to speak with in the Course Office in the Vaughan Library between 8am and 8pm.
Every member of our staff has passed a police check and they are happy to help students. Junior students are accompanied by staff at all times. Unless parents tell us otherwise, students aged 15 or older may be allowed to go shopping unsupervised when on excursions, but only if they are in a group.
For juniors the staff to student ratio is typically 1:10 onsite and 1:7 offsite, for seniors it is 1:15 onsite and 1:10 offsite.
We have an onsite nurse and medical centre for the duration of the courses and we ask parents to fill out a medical form for their child before arrival.
Senior girls are accommodated in one boarding house, senior boys in a second boarding house and junior boys and girls in a third boarding house separated by floor by gender. House parents look after students in their boarding houses making sure it’s a safe and secure environment.
